Childhood Trauma &
The ACE Assessment

This is a FREE tool to help you understand your story.

Researchers found that ten specific traumatic childhood experiences, known as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), are linked to a higher likelihood of health challenges later in life.

Moreover, the risk of these negative effects increases with the number of ACEs a child experiences.

The ten ACEs are defined as the following childhood experiences:

- Physical, sexual, or verbal abuse
- Physical or emotional neglect
- Separation or divorce of parents
- A family member with mental illness
- A family member addicted to drugs or alcohol
- A family member who is incarcerated
- Witnessing a parent being abused

However, this quiz does not account for variables such as external stressors or the significant role positive influences play in buffering the effects of trauma.
